We Have Never Been Closer to the End of the Republic as Trump Considers Martial Law

I think we have become numb to the gravity of what is going on, but as is now being reported, President Trump had real discussions in the Oval Office this work about declaring martial law to overturn the elections in swing states. We need to face the reality that we have never been this close to the end of our Republic and dare I even say a Civil War since 1860. What is the in-game if Trump actually tries this and some of the generals go along with it? How does it not end in violence? How does it not forever and irrevocably damage the foundations of our Republic?

It angers me to no end because from the very first moment that Trump came down those escalators in 2015, I knew that something like this could be possible. This is why you don’t play around with authoritarian figures. They might serve your interest for a short time, but in the end they take everyone down with them in order to keep their power. I honestly do not know what the next couple of weeks hold. It could be one of the most dangerous times in American history.

I think there’s a couple of ways that we can avoid this occurring. First of all President Biden needs to make it explicitly clear that any legislator or public official that goes along with such a plan is not just making a poor political decision, but it is committing sedition against the United States. They should not only lose their jobs but should face criminal charges and possible jail time. You don’t use kid gloves on issues like this. Likewise, President Trump should be made very aware that if he tries to pull this even if it fails he will be facing jail time. Only with the real possibility of personal repercussions can this evil be stopped.

Second, outlets like Facebook and Twitter should automatically take down and even block people who are calling for this. I am all for free speech, but sedition and a revolution are not part of the free market of ideas on social media. If you see this type of chatter make sure you flag it and hopefully these networks will pay attention.

Finally, I would encourage you to pray that we would have grace in this hour and that this evil would not come upon us. I truly believe that is only due to the grace of God that we have not suffered even more than we have under this horrendous administration.

I am often a pessimist when it comes to these issues and so I hope this is just me blowing this out of proportion. However, we must be vigilant right now. This is one of the most important moments in our republic. I know that we are busy with life, but we better pay a little attention as a would-be dictator tries to take over and the inevitable violence that would come with that.
